Noel D Paton. So I installed windows vista business on two separate machines with two separate product keys.

Then I used the same windows 7 starter disk to upgrade them both to windows 7 starter. Now one of the machines is saying the copy of windows is not genuine and please enter a product key, which obviously I don't have because windows 7 starter doesn't have a product key, and it doesn't accept the original vista business product key as valid.

Just because something is free, doesn't mean that you can ignore the licensing requirements - you can only install ANY license for Windows on ONE machine at a time. You will need to revert back to the original OS supplied with the machine, using either a Retail Vista Business disk, or the manufacturer's Recovery media. Thanks for your feedback. In reply to Noel D Paton's post on April 9, I went into the shop first thing this morning. Different bloke, who was very confused as to why I'd been given this disk, but he was sure his colleague had his reasons.

I made a bit of a fuss, and in the end he sent me packing with a copy of home premium. As much to shut me up and get me out of his shop as anything else I should imagine. This site in other languages x.
